Curious how the construction industry has evolved with new technologies? Zancon’s Managing Director Adam Zantis and National Director Claudio Orellana share what’s changed and what hasn’t.

 

In this edition of 5 Minutes with a Zancon Expert, Adam and Claudio reflect on how the construction industry has evolved over the past few decades - and what’s remained constant despite the changes. 

They explain that while real-time software has transformed efficiency, the core of good planning remains strategy, progressive thinking and communication. They emphasise that technology enhances planning speed but can’t replace well thought-out strategic input, logical sequencing and a clear end goal. Here are key insights from their conversation: 

Both Adam and Claudio highlight the importance of:

- **Modern tools, same core principles: **Today’s software is faster, more affordable and more accessible, but it doesn’t replace the need for structure and foresight. Great planning still starts with strategic foresight. Without a solid strategy, even the best tools can’t deliver a reliable path to success. 
- **Greater time to test:** Previously, most effort went into developing the programme. Today’s tools free up time to test scenarios, refine logic and validate assumptions - making the plan a true decision-making tool and adding value.
- **Programmes must communicate, not just calculate: **A programme’s scope extends beyond being a schedule - it’s a tool for alignment and communication. It should flag risks early, tell a clear story and help the team act before issues arise.

Their key message is clear: while technology has enhanced the planning process, it’s thoughtful, strategic input that truly drives success.
